Is anyone else doing it? If you didn't know, November is National Novel Writing Month. You have to try and write a 50,000 word novel in a month! Here's the site: www.nanowrimo.org/I'm going to try to write a novel that's a mixture of about five genres: Science fiction, fantasy, historical, supernatural, and mythological. I'll probably post parts of it here once November comes. ;D So are any of you on here doing it? *Paradox*

I've heard of it! And it intrigues me very much, I think I actually will try it just for the heck of it, right? Nothing to lose! Only things to gain.

I tried to do it last year and failed... XP I'm definitely trying again this year! Hopefully I'll get more written than before.

Ooooooooh that does sound quite fun! I'd try, but I never finish anything and I'm kinda busy half the times. But I wish you all luck with that! ^^

I was going to do it with one of my stories that I already started, but we are not allowed to.

I'm actually considering it. I doubt I'd be able to do it though. >.<

As I said, I may enter if I get time. I am not too sure what to write it about though since the one I was planning on doing it with I have already started. I did think of a small idea, whether I write it or not is another story. I will probably get a lot of homework, but I always try to fit in writing wherever I can!

I know I'm only a guest, but I love NaNoWriMo. Anyway, Silver if you have a story you already started you could just retell it in a different POV or something if you have trouble coming up with a whole new story! Good Luck to whoever is going to do it, as am I. ^^ Peace

Hmmm. I thought this thread would be a good place for me to start posting, particularly because I'm obsessed with NaNoWriMo. I see that no one's remarked in a while, but I'll spew the story of my November WriMo anyway. Hopefully, it'll encourage anyone who happens to read this to participate in NaWriMo this year!
So, the 2008 NaNoWriMo was my first year attempting the 50k in 30 days challenge. I went into it with nothing but one particular scene in my mind, a vague sketch of a main character, and the overwhelming sense that I was going to fail.
I had no plot. I knew no one else who was doing it. I had only ever completed two works in my life- two short stories that, while I've never looked at their word count, probably don't even equal 50,000 words put together.
But, Saturday, November 1, I sat down and started writing. I knew I had to write 1,666 words a day to reach the goal count of 50,000 by the 30th. That left me no wiggle room- if I didn't hit my word count for the day, I was going to have double time the next day. I work best like that, since I tend to procrastinate. I started writing.
I expected NaNoWriMo to be gruelingly hard. To my surprise, it was the funnest, most amazing month of my life. I watched my novel transform from one single scene into several scenes into a story with an actual plotline. A theme and some symbolism even came out of the woodwork-- I didn't even try to come up with them; I just wrote my 1,666 words each day, and eventually, a real piece of writing emerged.
But NaNoWriMo isn't just about watching a story blossom before your eyes. It's about community. They have an official forum filled with support, ideas, stories. Things that will help you write or things that will entertain you when you need to take a break. They have a podcast that brings encouragement through the dark times, when it seems like your novel will never be finished, and helps you celebrate the accomplishments when it finally is.
Despite having my computer crash during the second to last weekend of November and then losing 3,000 words the night of the 29th due to an idiotic flash drive, I managed to reach 50,000 words by November 30. My first year of NaNoWriMo, and I won! I was surprised that that was even possible!
As it turns out, it was a good year to win. 2008 winners recieved a code for a free printed copy of their book from CreateSpace and, if I can get my novel finished and editted by their cutoff date (June 1), I will definitely cash in and get my book printed.
I absolutely loved NaNoWriMo and plan to participate every year, circumstances allowing. To all of you who have never tried it, 9 months and 14 days till it starts again! Jump on the bandwagon this time! It's definitely worth it!
