This is somewhat of a suggestion and a concern mixed into one.
On the topic of critiquing, I would like to see more members from the community critiquing as opposed to just the editors or staff members. I say this because I think that it should be a very community-oriented activity in which everyone who receives a review or critique should give his or her efforts back, not necessarily to the one who did the critiquing but to another member of Scribbles.
Right now, it seems that there are very few people who write thorough critiques or reviews-- most of them are just a single line that says "Great job! Write more!" Really, what does that do to improve a person's writing? And with more and more members coming to Scribbles, there are many stories which are being posted. I do think that we need to find a way to encourage more members to become involved with the critiquing process.
It's not that I don't enjoy being an Editor but let's be serious; there are a total of three Editors, and many, many more pieces to critique. We can't do it all and it's frustrating to see others who constantly post up multiple pieces and expect a critique right away.
Even if all members critiqued a piece once a week, we'd get a lot done. Or, in another mannerism, they could critique two works for every piece they post up. I don't think that these should become actual rules, 'cause that would be restricting and ridiculous but I'd like to see critiquing as an everyday activity from the members.
A penny for your thoughts?
